NLA - NATIONAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATION

The NLA is an association affiliated to the UNP.   The NLA has been functioning from 1973.  Membership of the NLA is open to lawyers who are members of the UNP.

The NLA and its members provide various forms of legal and political support to the UNP.

The Leader of the UNP appoints the President of the NLA.  The present President of the NLA is Mr. Shibly Aziz, President’s Counsel and retired Attorney-General.

Mr. Daya Pelpola [UNP Vice Chairman – Legal], Mr. D.M.Swaminathan [UNP Vice Chairman] and Mr. S.J.Mohideen [UNP Legal Secretary] are active in the NLA.

Mr. Champaka Ladduwahetty, Mr. Niroshana Perera, Mr. Nissanka Nanayakkara and Mr. Anil Rajakaruna are the Convenors of the NLA.

The NLA has branches in almost every part of the country. There is also a branch for lawyers in employment.

The NLA is a constituent of the NPF, which is an umbrella group of all the professional associations affiliated to the UNP.
